The Linn County Twisters took to the mat the previous two Sundays, and both times, they found success. On Jan. 18, the Twisters traveled south to Burlington, where separate novice and open tournaments were held. In the novice tournament, seven Twisters walked away with gold. In the 6-and-under division, Colby Stephens placed first at 70 pounds. Jack Herrstrom (49) and Cameron Lewis (46) both placed second. Nick Walker was fourth at 52 pounds. In the 8-and-under division, Blake McCoach (73) and Sam Chambers (110) both placed first. Blake Stephens was second at 55 pounds. Shane Sullivan (64), Zach Kagen (67) and Brian Troutman (61) all placed third. Joshuah Bartlett competed at 52 pounds. In the 10-and-under division, Trinity Weers (64) and Jake Walker (79) both placed first. Seth Vandeventer was third at 120. In the 12-and-under division, Blake Barnes (140) and Johnny Schmidt (100) both placed first. Cody Lee was second at 80 pounds. Colin Gulotta (76), Christian Dominquez (84) and Zack Walker (105) all placed third. Jordan Wollard was fourth at 96 pounds. In the open tournament, two Twisters struck for gold. Chase Bloodgood, competing in the 6-and-under division, placed first at 52 pounds. Thaid Timblin was second. In the 12-and-under division, Dannon Brake was first at 105 pounds. Cordell Dunlop (110) and Zack McCoach (92) both placed second. Chaz Epperson was fourth at 76 pounds. Adam Moore competed at 76 pounds. Jesse Weers, competing in the 8-and-under division, was second at 58 pounds. Gavin Cullor (64), Joey Weers (95) and Blaine Morrell (70) all placed fourth. Maeson Kehl (67) and Nathan Akes (64) also competed. In the 10-and-under division, Brian Moore (73) and Zack McCoach (67) both placed second. Dakota Brake (70) and Dillon Tomblin (110) also competed. Tanner Schwalm, competing in the 14-and-under division, placed fourth at 160 pounds. On Jan. 11, the Twisters traveled to Louisburg to compete in the Louisburg Invitational. Bloodgood, Jake Walker and Dominquez all struck for gold. Kagen, Shawn Ackerson (12-and-under, 96 pounds) and Mason Powell (12-and-under, 120 pounds) all placed second. Vandeventer, Herrstrom and Schmidt all placed third. Troutman, Zack Walker, Garrett Cullor (6-and-under, 40 pounds) and Joseph Lancaster (6-and-under, 49 pounds) all placed fourth. Bartlett, Nick Walker, Colby Stephens, Blake Stephens, Chanz Gerleman (8-and-under, 64 pounds) and Logan Reed (8-and-under, 70 pounds) also competed. The Twisters will host a home tournament Feb. 14 at Prairie View High School.
