Communities in Linn County and southern Miami County will pay tribute to veterans who served and, in some cases, gave their lives for their country with several Memorial Day services Monday morning. Local members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will be conducting the ceremonies. La Cygne The service will begin at 10 a.m. in Oak Lawn Cemetery. A dinner will follow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the La Cygne Community Building, 204 N. Commercial St. Mound City The ceremony will start at 10:30 a.m. at Farmers & Merchants Bank, 427 Main St. A color guard, veterans and other community members will march to the National Cemetery Plot at Mound City Cemetery. The service will begin at 11 a.m. Pleasanton The community’s service will begin at 10 a.m. in the Pleasanton Cemetery. Fontana Three services are planned — 9:15 a.m. in Beagle Cemetery, 10 a.m. in Cadmus Cemetery and 11 a.m. at Fontana Cemetery, followed by a covered-dish dinner at noon at the Fontana Methodist Church.
