Police Cite Store For Selling Alcohol To Minors PDF Print E-mail

In a effort to make the La Cygne community safer, officers had success with an alcohol compliance check.

James Dean, chief of police, discussed the checks held in cooperation with the Kansas Bureau of Investigations and the Children’s Coalition. The checks were held Aug. 18. One store in the area was cited for selling to minors.

The La Cygne Police Department also assisted the Parker Police Department and Linn County Sheriff’s Department in stopping a party where minors possessed alcohol.

In other city business:

Dan Nasalroad, chief for the fire department, discussed the request for an automatic external defibrillator for the amount of $2,000. The item would be carried by the fire department personnel. All firefighters in the department are certified to carry the item. Council members approved the funds for the automatic external defibrillator.
Municipal Court Judge Claude Warren submitted a written request to change he starting time for Municipal Court to 7 p.m. The current starting time is 7:30 p.m. City Council members approved to change the time.

Warren also submitted a request for the council to authorize hiring translators for court proceedings if necessary. The charges are expected to cost between $25 to $40 per hour. Mileage was also included.    

The La Cygne City Council approved the 2010 budget, after a public hearing.

Travis Robbins, council member, asked why city vehicles were not marked with some type of city identification. Council members discussed the cost of labeling the vehicles.
