MOUND CITY — Linn County commissioners looked over bids for courthouse repairs Monday but did not disclose dollar amounts or take action on the issue.

Commission Chairman Herb Pemberton said he did not think that the bid details should be revealed until someone can review the proposals.

Commissioner Mike Page agreed that the bids need to be compared and the lowest bidders qualified before a recommendation is made.

Bids were presented by Dan Purinton of Blue Mound, Midwest Diversified of Lawrence, L&E Enterprises of Mound City, Double K Construction of Mound City and Mid-States Restoration of Pleasanton.

Commissioner Vicki Leonard asked county maintenance supervisor Jerry Bedgood whether there were bids for the tuck-pointing of the back of the Linn County Health Department building. Bedgood presented two bids — from Owenby Masonry and Construction of Blue Mound, for about $3,590, and from L&E Enterprises for about $3,525.

Commissioners voted to hire Owenby for tuck-pointing and waterproofing.
In other business, the commissioners on Monday:

Voted to hire Sherry Felix as a temporary fill-in for George Kellerman at the Centerville transfer station.

Discussed the price for disposing of mobile homes at the landfill. It was decided that a typical mobile home usually fills two 40-yard containers and the price for a container is $250, so the total would be about $500, depending on the size of the house.

Voted to approve a bid for $43,023 with WH Scale of Topeka for portable scale, piers, concrete and installation of a printer for tickets at the county transfer station near Prescott.
Heard from Pemberton that he had been approached by people who wanted to lease the landfill and transfer station and would like to meet with the commission next week.

Heard from Steve Riley, Parker, who had concerns about a large hole on 1700 Road and also about hay, mud and debris left on Kansas Highway 7. He said he contacted officials in Topeka about the situation and was told there is a law against leaving debris on the highway. Riley said he also talked to the sheriff about the problem.

Voted to give the Kansas Silver Haired Legislature $250.

Voted to purchase $20,000 worth of asphalt millings to be used on various road projects around the county.

Voted to permit the burial of telephone cable requested by Embarq at 18246 E. 950 Rd.

Voted to conduct a special meeting Friday at the District 2 shop at noon for the retirement celebration of Edward Lee.

Voted to sign a release to dismiss a lawsuit against Deputy Paul Filla.
