Linn County Extension again will sponsor the area Conservation Awards Program this year.

Local Extension agriculture and natural resources agent Abbie Grossnicklaus has been asked to lead a committee to select candidates for awards.

The program is sponsored by the Kansas Bankers Association and Kansas State University Research and Extension.
The  six award categories include energy conservation, water quality, soil conservation, water conservation, windbreaks and wildlife habitat. The last award is co-sponsored by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.
The purpose of the program is to stimulate a greater interest in conservation of agricultural and natural resources in Kansas by recognizing the contributions of farmers and landowners who make outstanding progress in practicing conservation. More than 200 Kansas producers and landowners were recognized for their efforts in 2008.

Nominations can be made by any person in the county. They should be sent to Grossnicklaus at the Linn County Extension Office; call  (913) 795-2829. More information on the awards program is available online at www.agronomy.kstate.edu/extension. (Click on “KS Banker Awards” on the left side of the page.)
