Fontana and Osawatomie firefighters responded to a house fire Friday morning at the home of Dennis and Tina Fenoughty, 24345 W 383rd St., northwest of Fontana. The blaze, which eventually consumed the entire structure, was initially discovered and called in by a neighbor around 8 a.m. No one was home at the time, however Dennis was alerted to the situation as he returned home to pickup some medicine he had forgotten. Firefighters on the scene determined the fire was caused when the house’s electrical box shorted out. Dennis and Tina said there had been no signs of an impending fire when they left the house that morning. While the majority of the structure is destroyed, the Fenoughty’s hope to salvage some of their belongings. Firefighters managed to save several items for the family, including their marriage license and several pieces of jewelry. “They saved our wedding pictures,” Tina said. “They’re the only copy of them that I have.” Once everything had settled, though, the Fenoughty’s simply wanted to express gratitude toward the Fontana and Osawatomie fire departments, and were thankful that everyone was safe. “Nobody was hurt,” Dennis said. “We lost a lot of memories, but everything can be replaced.”
