IOLA — Momentum was something the Prairie View volleyball team was hoping to carry over into Saturday’s Class 4A substate volleyball tournament.

Four days prior, the Buffalos stood tall with a high-flying Wellsville team on the road. Even though Prairie View lost both matches, Buffalos coach Diana Oborny felt good about her team’s performance, and said that made her believe her team could do well in Iola.
Unfortunately, that momentum never quite carried over as Prairie View lost to top seed Anderson County 15-25 and 11-25 in the first round of the tournament, in the process ending the Buffalos’ season.

“It was disappointing that we didn’t play better,” Oborny said. “Anderson County is a very good team, well coached, so this doesn’t take anything away from them, but we did not perform well. We had played well on (Oct. 20) at Wellsville and we were hoping to have that carryover into substate. We just never seemed to get on track.”
Jacque Burk and Jessica Solo each three kills for the Buffalos, who finished the season 7-25. Bailey Thayer and Emily Feldman each registered two kills. Paige Clinton dished out 12 assists, in addition to four digs.

Prairie View will lose a big core of its team to graduation. Burk, Thayer, Solo and Jessica Garrett, all middle hitters, as well as Clinton, a setter, all took to the volleyball court for the final time in their high school careers Saturday.
