$15,000 Grant To Replace Linn County Van

MOUND CITY — Mid-America Nutrition Services has found a $15,000 grant to replace Linn County’s van.

“They are the only ones that can apply so the van would belong to them,” Linn County Commission Chairman Herb Pemberton said Monday after reporting the news from Mid-America’s Sharon Geiss. “We would have to pay them $3,000 to cover the cost of the van.”
Commissioner Vicki Leonard pointed out that the county would be out from under maintenance and insurance costs.

“We put some money in the budget for a new van,” she said. “This would free up our money for other things.”

County Counselor Gary Thompson suggested revising this year’s contract with Mid-America to make the $3,000 part of the compensation paid to the agency for meals. It was decided that Leonard would contact Geiss about that and give County Clerk David Lamb the information so Thompson can get started on the revision.
In other business, the commissioners on Monday:

Approved $417,261.79 in claims.

Heard from Commissioner Mike Page that the county had purchased and picked up 12,730 tons of blacktop millings from Koss Construction for $20,000. The price per ton was $1.57, which is about half of the price originally quoted. Page said the material has enough oil in it to be used for base and would cost about $6 per ton if purchased from a quarry.

Approved a new resolution to replace Resolution 08-23 regarding consequences of violation of drug and alcohol laws by county employees.

Approved spending up to $3,800 for repair of brakes on Rescue 5 La Cygne pumper-to-apparatus services.
Approved burial of telephone cable at 1200 and Quinn roads by Craw-Kan Telephone.
