MOUND CITY — Solid Waste Coordinator Joe Maloney told the Linn County Commission on Monday he had received a proposal from Aquaterra Environment Solutions Inc. for assisting with documentation on the county’s closed landfill. He also said he received new information from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) about monitoring for gases like methane and hydrogen sulfide that might come off of the construction-demolition landfill. The state agency is looking for comments on the additional monitoring by Dec. 15. Maloney told the commissioners that the Lake Region Resource, Conservation and Development Council, was going to send comments. He said the council was concerned that this extra monitoring will make it difficult for many CD landfills to stay open. In other business, the commissioners: Approved two credit applications, one for Brandon Johnson, Pleasanton, and the other for Tower Metals, Prescott, to establish a monthly account for the landfill. Applicants must be paid up by the 10th of every month or will not be able to use landfill. Heard from Economic Development Director Dennis Arnold about repair of chimneys on courthouse roof.
