LA CYGNE — Two area women were honored last week at a reception at the La Cygne Library. Katie Knop of La Cygne and Tiffany Cox of Fontana are recipients of grants for women by the Royal Neighbors of America, an insurance cooperative. The women were nominated for the Nation of Neighbors program by members of Cleveland, Mo., Chapter No. 2451. The national program receives hundreds of application each year from the local chapters around the country. Knop, who is on crutches, has been helping care for her bed-ridden mother. Cox, recently a single mother, has been working to provide for her four young children. The women were awarded checks, and each received a bouquet of flowers as well. Mary Shelton, a La Cygne member of the RNA chapter, said both women thanked those at the Nov. 15 reception for the grant money. The company annually awards more than $650,000 to more than 500 individuals and families, according to Joann Albright, an RNA member from rural La Cygne.
