After 24 years of service, Carol Hinote is bidding a fond farewell to Tri-Ko Inc. It’s been a fun ride for Hinote, one filled with good memories and experiences. It will be wrapped up with a retirement party from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday in the Tri-Ko board room, 301 First St. Hinote, a former bus driver for Paola USD 368, found her way to Tri-Ko after helping drive several groups of people to Hays and Wichita for Special Olympics events. She eventually began working full-time as a vocational trainer. “I’ve been a van driver, I’ve driven the truck; there aren’t too many jobs I haven’t done down there,” said Hinote, who worked her way up to her current position as a case management technician. When she thinks back over her more than two decades at Tri-Ko, it’s the people who stand out most for Hinote. She shares a unique position as one of a handful of people who remember the firm’s humble beginnings in a small schoolhouse in Parker and its transition to its current location in Osawatomie. “I have a lot of information that not a lot of other people have about the beginnings of Tri-Ko,” she said. While Hinote has had many good experiences, she said the decision to retire was not necessarily a hard one, since her husband retired a year and a half ago. “I know I’m going to miss some of the folks there, but I’m going to do a bunch of other things,” she said.
