On Monday, Osawatomie Public Library took yet another giant step forward in its continued service to the community with the official launch of the NExpress library consortium program.

Ballooning the institution’s feasible inventory to nearly 650,000 individual books, movies and other materials, the northeast Kansas program is bringing big-city convenience to Osawatomie’s small-town library.

For patrons, this is nothing if not exciting. While the options and selections Library Director Elizabeth Trigg has worked to offer have been impressive, the amount of information now available to Osawatomie residents through the library has shot through the roof. Besides the obvious benefits of being able to browse the local library’s shelves online, patrons can borrow materials from one of the other many libraries in the network. They will be notified via e-mail, if they choose to provide an address, that materials are ready to be picked up or reminded when they are due or overdue. Stretching from Osawatomie up to Bern and over to Seneca and Bonner Springs, the NExpress consortium has canvassed small libraries in northeast Kansas. Osawatomie’s venture is a sign that Trigg is on the right path and has big plans.

This is just one more thing of which Osawatomie residents can be proud; Trigg noted that Paola’s public library is “sitting back and watching how we do” in the new program. Again, Osawatomie can be seen as a leader in the region, taking steps forward to forge new paths of knowledge, connectivity and networking.
Few, if any, excuses are left for anyone to not have a local library card. From books to movies and now even video games, the Osawatomie library and the NExpress program truly have something to offer to everyone.
