As new plants and grass sprung up in April, so did a new medical clinic in Pleasanton.

Officials dug up the first clumps of earth on April 16 for the 3,700-square-foot Mercy Medical Clinic of Linn County, which opened in the fall.

The project was the culmination of planning by the city, county, Joe and Linda Pointer, who donated 10 acres, and Mercy Health System of Kansas.

A huge portion of thought went into the location of the project, which is close to Kansas Highway 69. The clinic serves both Bourbon and Linn counties and the Missouri counties of Bates, Barton and Vernon. Officials stated that Pleasanton residents make up 21 percent of the client base.

“We have an opportunity here to provide first-class health-care services to the people of Pleasanton and the surrounding area, and we couldn’t be happier,” said Tim Staton, director of operations for the city of Pleasanton during the project’s spring groundbreaking.
