According to his team, the authorities in Russia are preventing Navalny from organizing a memorial service. “After a day of searching, we still haven't found the mourning room,” Navalny's spokeswoman Kira Yarmish wrote on X (Twitter). Some funeral homes said they were fully booked, while others refused when Navalny's name was mentioned.

“At one point, we were told funeral homes were banned from working with us.” According to officials, Navalny died on February 16 in a prison camp in the Siberian Arctic region of Yamal. The circumstances of his death are unclear. The politician, weakened by a poison attack in 2020 and repeatedly held in solitary confinement at the camp, collapsed during a tour of the icy prison yard and is said to have died despite efforts to revive him.
