Russian kills two Ukrainian soldiers in Bavaria

The suspected 57-year-old perpetrator is in custody and his two Ukrainian victims, who were in Bavaria for medical rehabilitation, suffered stab wounds. The background of the crime is still unclear.

Two Ukrainians were killed on the premises of a shopping center in Murna, Upper Bavaria, on Saturday evening. After a while, the police were able to arrest a man who was considered a strong suspect. He is a 57-year-old Russian.

It emerged on Monday that the two dead were members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Ukrainian media reported that they were in Germany for medical rehabilitation after war injuries. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba instructed his diplomats to closely monitor the case and maintain contact with German authorities so that the suspect is punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Kuleba thanked the German authorities

Kuleba thanked German authorities for arresting the 57-year-old suspect. However, it is not yet clear whether this is related to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, launched by Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians and Russians live in Germany.

According to media reports in Kiev, it has now been clarified in which Ukrainian units the men served. There will also be contact with relatives. The men, aged 23 and 36, lived in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. According to investigators, they died of stab wounds – the older of the two directly at the scene of the crime, the younger a little later in the hospital.

A trial judge issued a warrant for the murder on Sunday. Police did not initially clarify whether the three men knew each other and whether there was a dispute over Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. (APA/dpa)
