Media Molecule: LittleBigPlanet producers are working on a new IP

There's been a lot going on at MediaMolecule lately. It's clear by now: the makers of LittleBigPlanet have an entirely new brand of game.

Things have been a bit unsettled at Media Molecule lately as this Sony studio has also been struggling with layoffs. Earlier, it was confirmed the end of Support for Dreams last release to dedicate themselves to a new project. What this was was until now entirely uncertain; However, a job ad now confirms one fact: this will be an entirely new IP.

This means that both a sequel to Dreams and a new Little Big Planet centered around the cuddly sackboy are off the table. Media Molecule will devote itself to an entirely new title rather than a remake or sequel. At least Media Molecule already insisted in a blog post last year that the latest project would not be Dreams 2, after the game unfortunately disappointed commercially. A return to the hugely successful LittleBigPlanet series has been repeatedly discussed in rumors to this day.

That this won't happen is clear from an advertisement for the position of Principal Programmer for Art Technology at the company's headquarters in Guildford, Great Britain. The description specifically mentions “Media Molecules' new IP,” which the employee is expected to work on in the future.

With no announcement or statement from Media Molecule beyond the ad, it remains to be seen what this IP will be. For LittleBigPlanet fans, this is the next blow to the neck. The LittleBigPlanet 3 servers were recently taken offline.
